Harana: A Valentine Serenade Philippine-Tokyo Concert Series 2025

We proudly present the first show of the Philippine-Tokyo Concert Series 2025 entitled, "Harana: A Valentine Serenade." We bring together four local artists based in Tokyo, Japan, featuring Fatima Niña Reyes, Soprano, Carell Ethilca Henry, Piano, Coleman Bayliss, Bass, and Richie Henry, Drums.

"Harana" is a Filipino traditional serenade where a man declares his love for a woman through songs. Join us for an evening of timeless Philippine art songs called "Kundiman", folk songs, OPM classics, and Western music including classical, broadway, and jazz. English translations are provided.

This concert series features accomplished and world-class Filipino musicians in Japan and abroad to promote the Philippines' rich culture, heritage, and history through music. The Philippines has undeniably talented musicians and we want to share our vast Filipino music and works from our greatest Filipino composers to the international community in Tokyo City, Japan.

About the Artists

Fatima Niña Reyes, Soprano

Niña is the pioneering graduate of the Master of Music in Music Education Professional Track at St. Paul University-Manila. She trains under classical singer and musical theater actress Nenen Espina and has received jazz session training from international artist Kevyn Lettau.

She is currently studying jazz improvisation with Toma Cayabyab. With a versatile vocal range, Niña performs across genres including classical, musical theater, jazz, and pop-rock.

A founding member of The Sta. Teresita Parish Chorale, Niña served as the alto section leader when the choir won Grand Champion at the 2007 A Voyage of Songs choral competition in Thailand. In November 2022, she performed as a backup vocalist for the jazz duo Momocurly's second album launch in Daikanyama, Shibuya, Japan.

Niña currently teaches music to kindergarten students at an international school in Tokyo. She is also the lead vocalist and one of the guitarists for the band Konekshon-C, which released their debut single, "Summer's Twilight," on September 28, 2024.

Carell Ethilca Henry, Piano

Carell Henry, born and raised in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, is a classically trained pianist, a licensed professional K-12 music teacher, a music education researcher and advocate, and an author of an ongoing original piano book series for Filipino children.

At present, she is based in Tokyo City, working as a Kindergarten music teacher at an IB World school in Japan. She also runs her own music instruction business Kate Henry Music, as a private piano teacher to 12 piano students. She conducts concerts and recitals with her students and other collaborative artists annually. She regularly performs as a lounge pianist at ANA Intercontinental Hotel in Akasaka. The Philippine Embassy in Japan invites her in diplomatic and cultural events to perform solo piano.

She is a Master of Music degree holder at Elisabeth University of Music, and was awarded the Cecilia Award- top graduate for music research in 2020. She earned her Bachelor's in Music at St. Scholastica's College with latin honors. She is recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines NCR finalist in 2016 and the National Ayala Young Leaders in 2013 for her strong music education advocacies nationwide. She presented her music research and music education advocacy in Azerbaijan, China, Philippines, Malaysia, and Japan.

Collaborating Artists

Coleman Bayliss, Bass

Coleman hails from Australia where his professional musical career included playing with Jazz, Funk, and Soul bands, as well as performing with "Oh Boy", Buddy Holly concept band, which toured Hong Kong, Viet Nam, Singapore, Bali, and Malaysia. Before relocating to Japan, Coleman spent 16 months with the Australian production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "CATS". With the said musical, he was able to perform with the Philippine pride, Ms. Lea Salonga, the voice of the Disney princesses Mulan and Jasmine.

Since moving to Japan Coleman has been active with various bands, including "The Hitmen", "The Conductors", and "Sugar". He also performed with Enrique Iglesis on N.H.K's Pop Jam and MTV's 21st. Anniversary Show. He has also performed in promotional videos for, Shiina ("Smile") and Morning Mussamae's ("Mr. Moonlight").

Richie Henry, Drums

Richie Henry is a drummer from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, USA, where he taught, recorded, and performed for over a decade. He led award-winning casino/wedding top 40's groups all over the Southern USA. He also worked closely with musicians like The Voice recording artist Sera Buras, renowned blues rock band Magnolia Bayou, and Nashville singer/songwriter Colin Lockey.

He's a ten-time nominated, four-time Covey Award winner in The Coast Observer magazine's reader's choice poll for the Cover/Pop and Favorite Local Band categories with the band Red Room Arrangement. He was also a member of the southern blues band Fort Bayou Slim who are featured as important cultural artists on Mississippi's historical Blues Trail.

Since relocating to Japan, he placed second at the 2018 Yamaha Electone Festival in Kaitaichi, Hiroshima. He now resides and performs regularly in Tokyo with various artists in bars, theaters, and hotels.
