2024 Christmas Piano Students Recital: Winter Wonderland
Congratulations to our 11 piano recitalists on their terrific performances last December 8th, Sunday at Ideareve Ikegami Hall, Tokyo.
Kate Henry Music proudly presented the 2024 Christmas Piano Students Recital: Winter Wonderland last Sunday, December 8th, in the heart of Ikegami, Tokyo City. It was another beautiful morning, blessed by a sunny and cool winter breeze. Situated in the peaceful, historical, and well-preserved town of Ikegami, Ideareve Ikegami Hall is a newly opened music salon catering to small concerts and recitals.
The recital was participated by 10 of my piano students and 1 guest recitalist, totaling 11 performers that day. The event wouldn't be successful without the team behind the event. Our photographer, Ms. Nami Maeda, is with us for the 3rd time and her works are always professionally done. Joining us as our videographer is Mr. Joey Dabon, creating highlight reels and the concert video. Big commendations to our stage designers for the 3rd time, Craftycustomdesignz by Ophia Woolery-Schoeter and her family, for always giving 110% effort to making our stage look wonderful. Last but not least, for providing us with our scrumptious lunch, we give our heartfelt thanks to Chef Eric Romero from Ulam Tokyo, who is a parent of one of the recitalists.

Reflections as a Piano Teacher
I can't believe we are now on our 3rd piano student's recital! My students: performances have been nothing short of spectacular and we are all proud of the enormous progress they made throughout the year.
During the last two weeks before the recital, when we had our regular lessons with my students, it slowly dawned on me that my students were getting better- technically, musically, emotionally, and in all aspects. I was not ready! I was not ready to admit to myself that they were indeed growing fast and getting better at the piano. I had to "keep up" with them, too.
Kidding aside, hearing my students play Chopin, Mozart, and other classical masters, plus some of them being able to improvise on the keys like jazz players, I am astonished by their versatility and pureness of talents though they are still very young. I always go back thinking to the years when I was also a piano student like them, remembering all my piano teachers, professors, and senseis, and their life lessons. I want to impart the knowledge and values to my students for they are the new generation of musicians.
To end my reflection, I want to thank again all the families and friends who helped make this a successful one. Our small and strong community has been growing and genuine friendships are formed throughout the year, I can't thank you all enough! Music brings us all together and may this Christmas season be more meaningful in our gathering as one family.
See you next year in 2025!
